Spotlight on a Local Business: Aromagica Sol & Luna

This month we highlight one of our fine Reseda Blvd. businesses, Aromagica Sol & Luna.  Located at 8916 Reseda Blvd, Aromagica Sol & Luna is, as the name indicates, a magical place.  Owner Miriam Bayas, who opened her store in 2014, offers unique gifts from around the world, concentrating on exotic scents for the mind and body.  These include blending, burning, and massage oils, of all types and aromas (sensual, mystic and esoteric) as well a multitude of candles (religious and aromatic) and incense from all around the world.  As Miriam tells her customers, her shop offers the perfect gift for mind, body and spirit.  Among her offerings are products from South America as well as China, India and South Arabia.  Miriam’s shop is also the perfect place for finding that unique gift or collectible, whether a small Buddha or a beautiful candle holder or decorated box.

Miriam, originally from Ambato Ecuador, had a successful career as a social worker before she put her business know how to work and open this unique and special store.  She has drawn nothing but praise from her customers and from the local beautification group, Northridge Sparkle.  Her holiday decorations for the December 5th Reseda Great Streets Holiday Bazaar won her acclaim and the first prize in the store decoration contest.  A combination of traditional seasonal decoration with the hint of the exotic east, she was the hands done favorite decorator.

Miriam has won many testimonials from her customers and friends.  Andrea Alvarado of Northridge Sparkle has nothing but praise for Miriam, her store and her participation in the neighborhood.  Andrea says, “If you can't find what you want in her small, but well kept store, she'll try to find it for you.  Her prices are so reasonable.  She has an upbeat attitude, loves helping customers get exactly what they want or need.”   Don Larson of Sparkle also weighed in, “Miriam has been a very enthusiastic new neighbor to us. We are glad to have her on our street.  She had a beautiful Christmas display. it was clearly from the heart.”

Aromagica Sol & Luna is open six days a week, and is closed on Sunday.  Please see Yelp (http://www.yelp.com/biz/aromagica-sol-and-luna-northridge-2) for daily hours and other information.

Northridge Metrolink Station Relocation Study Made Available to the Public

Metro’s long-awaited Northridge Metrolink Station Relocation Study was made available to community members at the end of September.   The study was based on community input taken last spring at a community meeting, as well as through email and online comments.   The study takes no official position, rather it details the various costs, community concerns, and environmental factors that would be involved in either the upgrading of the current station, or in the moving of the current station to the corner of Reseda and Parthenia. Both study alternatives aimed to identify potential opportunities to enhance transit connectivity throughout the community and region. Alternative 1: Station Relocation, relocates the existing Northridge Metrolink Station to the intersection of Reseda Boulevard, Parthenia Street, and the Ventura Line.   Alternative 2: Existing Station Enhancements, upgrades the existing Northridge Metrolink Station into a multi-modal transit ...

Sherwood Forest Home Owners Association Works to Make Northridge a Better Place to Live

On January 18th, the Sherwood Forest HOA will hold a stakeholder meeting at the Dearborn Elementary Charter Academy, at which there will be a presentation on the Clean Streets, Clean Starts program, which seeks to find work, counseling and housing for North Valley homeless.   Guest speakers will include Don Larson and Laura Rathbone, coordinators of this revolutionary approach to tackling homelessness. Homeless issues are important issues in the community, no less in the well to do and idyllic Sherwood Forest neighborhood.   Overnight parking of recreational vehicles and cars has become a daily occurrence in the neighborhood.   Other issues, such as large scale development and growing traffic strains are increasingly on the radar of the community and the Sherwood Forest Home Owners association.    Homeowners and the SFHOA find the need for advocacy in the community more than ever.   This increased advocacy has been reflected in ...
